United Way of Sumner County Campaign Basics
The annual fundraising Campaign is United Way of Sumner County's primary source of revenue for improving the common good in our community. The 2017 Campaign began with the close of the 2016 Campaign on March 31, 2017. A formal Campaign Kick-off will be held in the community early this fall.
The 2017 Campaign will officially end on March 31, 2018. Funds raised during this time will count toward reaching our 2017 Campaign goal and will be used to support local non-profit health and human service programs that serve Sumner County residents during the fiscal year from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019.
There are several components to the annual campaign. The following is a brief explanation of some of them:
These are the most common and most popular format for United Way fundraising campaigns. A workplace campaign typically consists of a scheduled meeting between a United Way representative and employees of the host business, facilitated by an employee volunteer referred to as a "Campaign Coordinator." During the meeting, information about United Way and its work within the community is provided, from addressing emergency needs to taking a long term approach to eliminating or reducing challenges in the community. Employees may also learn how that work is accomplished by United Way partner agencies and, in some cases, how an individual client of an agency benefitted from services made possible by United Way funding. At the end of the meeting, employees are invited to make a one-time donation or contribute regularly through payroll deduction. Workplace campaigns often include special events, including employee meals, games, and other activities to generate excitement, interest, and comaraderie. Workplace campaigns typically take place in the fall, with most occuring between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30. You can see a list of our Top 25 Community Partners from 2016 by clicking HERE.

Another critical component to United Way's Annual Campaign are individual donors. These United Way supporters may not have a workplace campaign in which they can contribute, they may be a small business owner or entrepreneur, or they may be an individual who is retired or does not work outside the home. Regardless, United Way's annual campaign does rely upon the very important contributions of these advocates. Similar to workplace contributors, an individual donor has the option to make a one-time contribution or can be billed regularly by United Way, dividing their annual contribution amount into equal monthly payments.

United Way of Sumner County recognizes its Leadership Givers as anyone who contributes $500 or more in an Annual Campaign. Donors may be individuals or participants in a workplace campaign. Unless requested by the individual, United Way publicly recognizes these donors for their outstanding dedication to United Way's mission. Donors who make an annual gift of $10,000 or more are recognized by United Way of Sumner County, as well as the United Way of America as Alexis de Toqueville Society members. These significant contributors, unless they wish to remain anonymous, are recognized publicly by both the local United Way and United Way Worldwide.
Several times a year, United Way of Sumner County hosts special fundraising events to supplement the Annual Campaign. Examples of these events include the United Way of Sumner County Charity Golf Scramble and the Boots & Bling gala and auction event. Watch the Events page of our website for details on these activities as they are scheduled.
