Achievement in the Making-Gallatin Shalom Zone

 AIM educates and develops leadership skills in students ages 11-15.  Provides homework assistance and mentors to children in grades 1-5.  Educates students ages 7-15 regarding future career choices and direction  for long term goals.

Books from Birth of Middle Tennessee

 Encourages early literacy, school readiness, and strengthening of family bonds, by providing free age-appropriate books monthly to children from birth up to age 5, in cooperation with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.  Complementary components of the program include a family literacy intiative and Jo's Reach Out and Read Book Club (provides free books at well-child doctor visits with a "prescription" for family reading time and also offers volunteer-driven story times in waiting rooms).

Community Child Care Services, Inc.

  • Offers an enrichment program and day care to infants and preschool children of working low-income families.  Tuition is based on a sliding-scale.

Gallatin Day Care Centers

  • Offers an enrichment program and day care to infants andn preschool children of working low-income families.  Tuition is based on a sliding-scale.

Kids on the Block - STARS Nashville

  • Educates children and the community about health and social concerns, using puppets and other teaching tools.  Available in Sumner County Schools.

Literacy Council of Sumner County

  • Provides a learning and resource center for children and adults, providing consultation and one-to-one volunteer tutors in reading, math, English as a Second Language, GED preparation, grammar and writing.  Also offers Beacon LIteracy, a licensed program for more serious reading problems, Irlen Screening for perceptual problems, and a Community Resource Room offering support in all academic areas.

Rainbow Early Intervention Program - H.A.T.S.

  • Provides services to children with physical, mental and emotional disabilities.  The preschool program benefits children from birth to 3 years with a variety of developmental delays.  On-site and home-based services are offered.  Transportation and social services are also available.  

Sumner County Adult Education Advisory Council

  • Provides adults with literacy training, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, basic skills classes, workplace literacy programs, and computer skills classes.

Sumner County 4-H

  • Provides educational programs for youth ages 9 -19.  Programs are conducted primarily in schools to help youth learn skills in the areas of citizenship, leadership, personal development, public speaking, agriculture, and home economics. UWSC support is used toward youth development.
