Rebuilding Lives

American Red Cross

  • Provides a variety of programs including: disaster relief, blood donor recruitment/collection, services to military families, health education courses, and supportive assistance to separated families.

Ashley's Place (Sumner Child Advocacy Center)

  • Provides child abuse victims with a child-friendly atmosphere to be interviewed in by the State Child Protection Services, law enforcement officials, etc. The Center also provides free therapy for children and families, and it maintains an educational program about child abuse prevention and other related issues for children, teachers, law enforcement officials, day care providers, and others. 

Cumberland Crisis Pregnancy Center

  • Provides confidential counseling services to women and families involved in crisis pregnancies.  Also provides pregnancy tests, adoption information, prenatal and parenting classes, support groups, abortion recovery counseling, maternity clothes, diapers, formula and infant material assistance.

HomeSafe

  • Provides assistance to victims of domestic violence.  Services include: emergency shelter for women and children; 24-hour crisis intervention services; referral system; legal and social advocacy; as well as limited transportation.

Legal Aid Society

  • Provides equal access to civil justice for low-income elderly, families and individuals.  Free legal representation; legal counsel and advice, and community education in a variety of areas including: protection from domestic violence and abuse; access to health care; fair and decent housing; eligibility for government benefits; consumer protection problems involving basic goods and services; special education rights, and federal tax matters.

Parents Reaching Out

  • Provides counseling to families facing the challenges of high-risk pregnancies or with an infant/child in critical care.  Services are provided at Baptist Hospital, The Women's Hospital at Centennial, and Monroe Carrell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Student Assistance Program - STARS Nashville

  • School-based program to help students refrain from the use of alcohol, other drugs, and violence and to enhance their educational achievement and character development.  Core services include: school-based student assistance programs ("SAPs") to address social and emotional barriers to learning students' (K-12) experience including: substance use, co-occurring mental health issues, violence/bullying, suspensions, and poor attendance.  Also offers outreach and assessments, individual and group counseling, and referral to community-based resources.

Student Training and Empowerment Program - HomeSafe

  • "STEP" provides teen dating violence prevention education in the Sumner County Schools and in the community.

Sumner County CASA

  • Program trains and supervises diverse volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who are involved in court proceedings, primarily as a result of abuse and/or neglect.
