Tornado Victims Information

If you are a victim of the April 7 tornadoes that struck Goodlettsville, Hendersonville and Gallatin, TN, please call 2-1-1 to find out where to get assistance. Simply dial 2-1-1 on your touchtone phone. This is a 24-hour/365-day a year hotline that is staffed by trained information and referral specialists. These specialists will direct you to the agency/church/organization that is best suited to meet your needs. You may also search the 2-1-1 database by going to www.211tn.org .

United Way of Sumner County does not disperse funds directly to individuals. Currently, funds are being distributed through: Goodlettsville HELP Center, Hendersonville Samaritan Center and Gallatin C.A.R.E.S. United Way of Sumner County is reimbursing each of these three agencies for tornado relief assistance that they provide. Please call or visit one of these three agencies to apply for assistance. Q: How much money has been raised for the United Way of Sumner County Tornado Relief Fund?
A: To date, United Way has raised over $92,888.87.

Q: How much will United Way take out of that amount for administration or fundraising costs?
A: Zero. Absolutely 100% of the dollars raised for the United Way of Sumner County Tornado Relief Fund will go to Sumner County tornado relief efforts.

Q: How does a tornado victim receive money from the United Way?
A: United Way of Sumner County is not set up to disperse funds directly to individuals. Our purpose is to leverage these funds and other resources to help the community. A tornado victim needing financial assistance will be directed to contact either the Goodlettsville HELP Center, Hendersonville Samaritan Center or Gallatin C.A.R.E.S. United Way of Sumner County has partnered with these three agencies that will serve as financial assistance distribution points. These agencies provide financial assistance to local residents on a daily basis. They are trained in case management and have the ability to properly disburse funds to individuals. United Way of Sumner County will reimburse these three agencies for the funds they have spent on tornado relief to individuals.

Q: How much money has been spent on tornado victims to date?
A: United Way of Sumner County has disbursed a total of $56,247 to Goodlettsville HELP Center, Hendersonville Samaritan Center and Gallatin C.A.R.E.S. United Way does not cut the checks until the agency has made a reimbursement request.

Q: So what is being done with the rest of the money?
A: United Way of Sumner County is part of the Sumner Area Disaster Recovery coalition. This coalition is working to assess the immediate and long-term needs of tornado victims. This may include financial help as well as spiritual/mental/emotional and many other needs. It's estimated that it will take a year for long-term recovery in Sumner County. United Way of Sumner County will be a wise steward of donors' funds to ensure that both short-term and long-term recovery needs are met. We will expend 100 % of the United Way of Sumner County Tornado Relief Funds for tornado relief efforts.
