United Way of Sumner County
launches emergency fund to provide
local relief during COVID-19 pandemic

United Way of Sumner County has created an emergency fund to help provide relief for residents of Sumner County whose lives are being impacted by changes caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The Sumner County COVID-19 Impact Fund, which launches today (March 20, 2020), has been created to meet basic needs across the community, says Steve Doremus, executive director of the United Way of Sumner County.
“100% of funds received by our United Way Covid-19 Impact Fund goes to help our neighbors and community get through this crisis,” Doremus says. “Our fund will focus on immediate, basic needs such as housing, utilities, food, prescriptions and other crisis-related issues.”
Doremus added that requests for assistance are already coming in from residents whose employment is being impacted by the crisis.
"The closing of business and cutbacks for hourly and other workers caused by the pandemic is already impacting families throughout Sumner County," Doremus said. "For those able to give, our COVID-19 Impact Fund is an immediate way to start getting financial resources to those facing hardship. I encourage everyone to contribute what they can as we come together as a community to get through these unprecedented times."
Money donated to the COVID-19 Impact Fund will be distributed through United Way of Sumner County’s four partner help centers across the county: the Hendersonville Samaritan Association, Portland CARES, the Westmoreland Food Bank and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Gallatin. Doremus says these agencies were selected because they are uniquely positioned in the community to meet the targeted needs and have a known track record of serving the community in partnership with United Way of Sumner County.
Distributions to agencies will begin in early April.
