Advocating for Dignity and Mobility:

At the heart of the Ombudsman Program is a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of residents in long-term care facilities. One recent story from Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency shows just how powerful that advocacy can be.

During a visit to a nursing home, a resident asked the Ombudsman for help obtaining prosthetic legs. He felt the process had stalled and was unsure where to turn. The Ombudsman quickly stepped in—meeting with staff, coordinating with therapy, and following up for months to ensure progress continued. When the first set of prosthetics didn’t fit, the Ombudsman worked with staff to remeasure and reorder.

Nearly a year after that first conversation, the Ombudsman returned to find the resident proudly walking forty feet—unaided—in his new legs. His joy was unmistakable.

This is the impact of dedicated advocacy. This is how we protect dignity and restore hope. United is the Way to stand up for those who need a voice.
