United Way of Sumner County had the privilege of honoring our donors, advocates and volunteers during the Community Impact Breakfast at The Gathering Place in Gallatin earlier this month. We recognized our fantastic volunteers who give of their time and talents to help improve our community.

This past campaign year, we had 123 volunteers who, collectively, gave 1,595 hours of time to help UWSC.  Theresa Dowell-Fuqua, a United Way board member, was named Volunteer of the Year. Theresa performed more than 160 hours of volunteer work at United Way, helping with every event and drive, and she also introduced new volunteers to United Way, helping us expand our reach in Sumner County.

Our Youth Volunteer of the Year is Sean Morrison. During this past year, Sean performed a variety of tasks, including converting thousands of paper documents to electronic versions to improve efficiency (and space) around the office, taking inventory of hundreds of UWSC supplies and campaign materials, and helping document thousands of items collected during our Winter Care drive and United We Feed food drive.

In addition to Theresa and Sean, we recognized other volunteers who gave more than 40 hours of volunteer time to UWSC this past year. They are: Stephen Bearden, Pat Conner, Kelley Crecelius, Susan Gaimari, Alana Hibbler, Michele Owens and Norman Rubio.

United Way volunteers perform a host of tasks. Some serve on our Board of Directors, others serve on UWSC committees such as golf; gala; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and allocations panels. Other volunteers handle clerical tasks in the office such as taking inventory of supplies and United Way campaign materials, logging in-kind donations, organizing, filing and shredding. They also help us prepare for our community collection drives for diapers, food and winter care items. And, they help prepare for our fundraising events.

All of our volunteers are generous, compassionate people who give of themselves without expecting anything in return. We absolutely could not do the work we do without these wonderful people. Thank you, volunteers, for ALL you do!
