Servant leadership is at the heart of how United Way of Sumner County operates. United Way Board Officer, Michele Owens, exemplifies that spirit in all that she does for our organization. Owens, currently serving as Secretary of the Board, has the unenviable task of keeping track of the Board minutes. No small feat when her Board colleagues – 21 of them – meet to discuss the business of United Way of Sumner County. She has held that position for several terms, but that’s not all she does.

Michele has been volunteering for United Way of Sumner County for 23 years, serving in a variety of roles. “I have been part of the Board, Executive Allocations Committee, Allocations Committee Member, Audit Committee and Finance Committee,” says Michele, who works as a Banking Center Manager for First Horizon Bank in Hendersonville. She has been in the banking industry for 25 years.

“The first role I had was as an Allocations Volunteer. I have served on the education panel, reviewed grants and conducted site visits. I have been able to witness firsthand how the United Way of Sumner County connects resources to needs.”

Michele also can be counted on to volunteer during United Way’s fundraising events and always offers to help collect items for United Way’s community drives.

"I am grateful that I have an opportunity to serve my community through my involvement with the United Way of Sumner County,” Michele says.

When she’s not volunteering for United Way, Michele also devotes her time to other community organizations. She is the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Hendersonville and a member of Beautiful Hendersonville. Thank you, Michele, for all you do!
